Nan Sandbox

Nan Sandbox is an initiative dedicated to healing the forests of Nan province, bringing hope and a sustainable future to the local communities. It serves as a pivotal mission, engaging stakeholders from various sectors to preserve this vital ecological stronghold while empowering communities to live in harmony with nature.

The Nan Sandbox Initiative

Nan Sandbox concept fosters a harmonious cohabitation between humans and nature, facilitating the restoration of the Nan forest while generating new economic value that promotes the health and well-being of society.

Because the forests of Nan are not just a vital part of the region’s landscape—they are essentially the lifeblood of Thailand’s ecology. As a key source of the Chao Phraya River, the Nan Watershed forests supply 40-45% of the river’s water, sustaining countless lives across the country. Once covering 85% of the province’s 7,436 square kilometers, these forests are now under grave threat from deforestation, driven by illegal agricultural expansion. The loss of these forests is not just an environmental issue; it is a matter of survival for both the local communities and the broader ecosystem.

Fostering Symbiotic Cohabitation

The primary objective of the project is to address land and forestry challenges, enabling communities to live and thrive in a legally compliant manner while also revitalizing forest areas to restore their ecological richness. This is how the Sandbox area is strategically allocated:

The initial experimental region targets 28% of the depleted forest.

For the Coexistence
